K-9 "ZIP" PASSING
By K-9 Officer John Perry
542011_114719_0.jpgIt is with great sadness that the Londonderry Police Department announces the passing of K-9 Zip.

Zip was born in July of 2000 in the country of Belgium and was brought to the United States to be a police canine.

Zip joined the Londonderry Police Department in August of 2001. He graduated from the New Hampshire State Police patrol school and was certified as a patrol service dog in November of 2001. Following the tragic events of September 11, 2001, Zip’s handler, K-9 Officer John Perry, was called to active service in the Massachusetts Air National Guard. Zip was also activated and stayed with K-9 Officer Perry for the duration of his active duty.

Zip was certified as a narcotic detection canine in January of 2004. Zip remained a dual purpose narcotic detection and patrol service canine throughout the remainder of his career.

During Zip’s career he found many suspects, lost persons and illegal narcotics.
In March of 2010 Zip transitioned to part time status while Officer Perry began training Zip’s successor.

On April 12, 2010 Zip suffered a sudden medical emergency and was transported to the veterinarian’s office. It was determined that Zip was suffering from a major intestinal problem. Throughout Zip’s life he always gave everything he had to serve his community. Once again he gave all but unfortunately he succumbed to his illness.

Zip will be greatly missed and never forgotten.
