What is Police Community Relations?

 

Community Relations stresses interaction between police and the community to form a partnership in fighting crime. This pro-active approach is a joint effort to enlighten both the police and the community on safety issues within Londonderry. There are many ways this can be performed:

 

 

911-Cell Phone Program

The 911- Cell Phone Program is a program in which cell phone are donated to the Londonderry Police Department. The program then donates the cell phone to individuals who can use the cell phone to call 911 in an emergency situation. To register or donate a cell phone, please call the Londonderry Police Department at 432-1118.

 

Alzheimers Association Safe Return Program

The Londonderry Police and the Alzheimers Association Safe Return Program is a nationwide identification, support and registration program working at the community level. Safe Return provides assistance whether a person becomes lost locally or far from home. Assistance is available 24 hours, every day, whenever a person is lost or found.

 

Bike Rodeo

The Londonderry Police Department in conjunction with the Nutfield YMCA and the Londonderry Summer Recreation Program hosts several Londonderry Police Bike Rodeos. Over 300 school age kids participate each year in the Londonderry Police Bike Rodeo.

 

NH Boater Education Class

The Londonderry Police Department in cooperation with the New Hampshire Marine Patrol Department is hosting a NH Boater Education Class. The purpose of this class is to provide an educational opportunity for residents and non residents to comply with the new law, which took effect in January 2002.

 

The classes are held at the Londonderry Police Department 268-A Mammoth Road Londonderry, NH 03053. There is a $10.00 fee for this class and checks can be made out to the NH Marine Patrol Department.

 

Buckle Up New Hampshire Coalition

The Londonderry Police Department in conjunction with the Buckle Up New Hampshire Coalition promotes the correct use of seatbelts by all motor vehicle passengers. Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for young people today. The Buckle Up NH Coalition has organized and promoted Buckle Up New Hampshire Awareness Week.

 

Child Passenger Safety Seat Inspection Station

The Londonderry Police Department in conjunction with the Londonderry Fire Department is designated as a Child Safety Seat Inspection Station. We have several personal who are certified child safety seat technicians. If you would like to have a child safety seat inspected for correct installation call the Londonderry Child Passenger Safety Program at 432-1118 for an appointment.

 

Community Room Usage

The Town of Londonderry Police Department, located at 268A Mammoth Road, Londonderry, NH, offers a large multi-functional Community Room, free of charge, for groups and organizations to use.  The Community Room is capable of seating 32 people and offers a 145” x 47” dry erase white board and 104” x 85” projection screen used for video presentations.  You supply the audio/video equipment, refreshments, and meeting supplies.  To schedule usage of the Community Room contact either our Support Services Division Commander or Executive Secretary by calling (603) 432-1118, Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

 

Companions with Seniors

Companions with Seniors was developed to maintain a two way communication between Londonderry Police Department and the Seniors of Londonderry. We can meet with the seniors at their meeting, arrange for speakers and plan field trips whenever a topic is suggested or the need arises. This is a newly developed program and the direction it takes place depends upon the needs that arise.

 

CTV-20 Programs

The Londonderry Police Department in conjunction with the Londonderry Cable Access Center will produce several safety and educational videos in order to promote crime prevention and create awareness. The Police Department also plans on producing public service announcements.

 

Domestic Violence Cellular Phones

The Londonderry Police Department can provide a victim of domestic violence with a cellular phone. The telephones are programmed to allow an individual to call 911 and have twenty-four hour access to emergency services. An officer may issue a telephone for a period of thirty days after which time the prosecutor will review the case to determine the need. There is no cost to the victim for the telephone or service.

 

Internship Program

The Londonderry Police provides an Internship Program to several area college students who are seeking a degree in Criminal Justice or a Law Degree. The program is designed to give students hands on approach to law enforcement.

 

Law Enforcement Week

The month of May has been designated as National Police Week. The Londonderry Police Department will again host an Open House and several activities to promote local law enforcement and the Fallen Police Officers Memorial located in Concord, NH.

Neighborhood Watch

The Londonderry Police Department offers its residents the ability to start a Neighborhood Watch Program. By participating in a program where "we look out for each other" residents can make a real difference in attacking crime in their community through their Neighborhood Watch involvement. The Londonderry Police Department will host a meeting and invite numerous groups from various neighborhoods who show an interest in starting a Neighborhood Watch Program. This is an information meeting on how to start such a program.

 

OHRV Safety Course

The Londonderry Police Department in conjunction with the NH Fish and Game Department hosts an OHRV Safety Education course. The course is designed to educate young adults ages 12 and older how to safely operate an OHRV. Police Station Tours

The Town of Londonderry Police Department offers station tours, free of charge, by appointment only.  Tours are designed for groups and organizations who are interested in the various functions of the Police Department including Administrative, Communications, Patrol, Traffic, Bicycle, Criminal Investigations, Crime Prevention, Evidence Processing, and Records sections. Tours last approximately 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the age group of the participants, and contain topics of interest for all ages.  Police patrol cars are available for children to tour upon request when scheduling the tour.  To schedule a station tour contact either our Support Services Division Commander or Executive Secretary by calling (603) 432-1118, Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

 

Project Child Safe Free Gun Lock Program

The Londonderry Police Department has partnered with Project Child Safe as part of a nationwide initiative to raise awareness about safe and responsible firearm ownership and storage. Designed to make homes with firearms safer.

 

The Londonderry Police will be offering, at no charge, gunlocks to those who want them. Project Child Safe is funded by a $5 million grant from the United States Department of Justice and managed by the National Shooting Sports Foundation.

R.A.D. Rape Aggression Defense

The Rape Aggression Defense System is a program of realistic self-defense tactics and techniques for women. The R.A.D. System is a comprehensive women-only course that begins with awareness, prevention, risk reduction and risk avoidance, while progressing on to the basics of hands-on defense training. R.A.D. is not a Martial Arts program. Our courses are taught by nationally certified R.A.D. Instructors and provide each student with a workbook/ reference manual. This manual outlines the entire Physical Defense Program for reference and continuous personal growth, and is the key to our free lifetime return and practice policy for R.A.D. graduates.
